Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does Low Blood Pressure Along With Palpitations Indicate?
2 days ago my husband was in ER. His blood pressure was very low, 73/45 ,78/37 and such. When it rose into the 90 s/ 57 ish, they released him because he wouldn t be admitted. Today, after monitoring his BP every hour or so, it ranged from 98/56 to 165/89. He doesn t feel bad but does feel tired and weak and if he does any physical activity he said he feels like his heart is racing. Other than dehydration, flu was ruled out, is there anything else this might be or is there anything I need to be more watchful for?
Was this first episode of such symptoms or there is a past history of such type of complaints? A drop of blood pressure up to this level is somewhat risky. If your husband feels exhausted and palpitations, I advise you to consult him, cardiologists.
In such scenario investigations like electrocardiogram is the first thing to be done as the first step. Further investigations like echocardiogram, exercise stress tests are required to rule out valvular pathology, cardiomyopathy, congestive cardiac failure or coronary artery diseases.
Until you get advice from a cardiologist, make sure he is hydrated throughout the day to maintain blood pressure. Make sure he does not change posture suddenly (sudden sitting or standing).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Hiren Hirpara
