What Does Low Grade Squamous Intraepithelial Leison On A Papsmear Report Suggest?
Hi. My name is Jill, I m 21 and pregnant. When I went in for my first papsmear just after finding out I was pregnant I found out I have a low grade squamous intraepithelial leison but I was told its 100% curable but most likely will be taken care of after I have the baby. I am not 17 weeks and today I started to bleed. Not too heavy but it is spotting. I was wondering if this is anything I should be worried about? Should I go to the ER? Or is it common?
Because you are pregnant and bleeding, it is important to see your doctor as soon as possible to rule out any problems with the pregnancy first. A placenta previa (low inserted placenta) is the first thing to rule out and then other possible conditions that cause bleeding in the second trimester.
The cervical changes in the pap smear may cause bleeding as well but they are not urgent. They are generally treated after pregnancy.
You will need to have a transvaginal ultrasound and possibly a gynecological examination and other tests and examinations may be ordered if the doctor finds it necessary.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
