What Does Mastoid Air Cell Sclerosis In CT Scan Suggest?

What does "mastoid air cell sclerosis" is noted mean on my mother's CT? The test also noted "there are a few areas of subcortical white matter hyp attenuation in both the left and right cerebral hemispheres consistent with mild chronic micovascular ischemia...Mastoid air cell sclerosis is noted."62 year old woman

Just had heart surgery this past January 2010: bypass and aortic valve replacement. No diabetes. Off and on smoker between the ages of 20-30. History of stroke, dementia, diabetes and aneurysms in family.

Mastoid air cell sclerosis is due to chronic mastoiditis related to chronic suppurative otitis media(CSOM).She need proper examination of ear.Treatment depend upon findings.There may be many sequel of CSOM.

Chronic micovascular ischemia in sub cortical white matter are related to ischemic changes resulting from involvement of small blood vessels.
Ischemic changes resulting from blood vessels changes in diseases like hypertension,diabetes mellitus,dyslipidemia.
So,your mother need monitoring of conditions that leads to ischemic changes like hypertension,altered lipid profile,diabetes mellitus so that further progression of disease can be halted.
She need investigations like routine hemogram,RBS,LFT,RFT,Lipid profile,ultrasound of abdomen.
Proper treatment depend upon findings.
