What Does Moderate Diffuse Ascites Mean In The Following Test Report?

My husband s initial findings say there is moderate diffuse ascites, moderate to marked atherosclerotic calcification, and mildly lobulated renal contour with cortex loss, what does this mean exactly? Drs have already told us he s in acute renal failure.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The acute renal failure may be sequence of chronic uncontrolled hypertension, renal artery stenosis (bilateral) or others. The ascites seems liver involvement with compromised functioning and release of extravasated fluid in the abdomen cavity causing hypoproteinemia condition. I would suggest to maintain his hydration status as per the recommended fluid intake and restriction of salt particularly in the diet as per the guidance of expert dietician.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
