What Does My CAT Scan Report Indicate?

Thank you, my dad has just had a cat-scan, this is the result! We wonder if he should driveimpression 1 no acute intracranial process. 2. Volume loss changes of chronic of small vessel ischemia. 3. The degree of ventricular enlargement is slightly disproportionate to the degree of gyal effacement. In appropriate clinical setting, this pattern can be seen in normal pressure hydrocephalus.

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
The CT scan shows hydrocephalus, hydrocephalus is increased amount of cerebro-spinal fluid (CSF) in ventricles of brain and thus leading to their enlargement as compared to brain parenchyma.
Hydrocephalus can be associated with high or normal intra-cranial pressure.
High intra0cranial pressure is harmful and can lead to various symptoms like headache, vomiting, etc.
High pressure can damage the brain tissue also.
However, in your fathers case, the intracranial pressure is within limits thus he will not be experiencing the above mentioned symptoms.
Treatment of normal pressure hydrocephalus is drainage of excess CSF formed and thus to relieve hydrocephalus.
It is advisable for your father to refrain from driving till hydrocephalus completely resolves.
You may consult your neurologist for further management of hydrocephalus.

Thanks and take care
