Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my daughter (29) has a mild enlarged submandibular lymph node measuring 1.2 cm. She had blood work done and just received her CT scan results. Blood work is good. The ct findings were no lesions although it was noted that she has multiple prominent supraclavicular and cervical lymph nodes (but not considered enlarged by ct criteria. The reports states no suspicious lesions were found. Her doctor still wants to have this biopsied by a plastic surgeon. She said she does not suspect cancer but wants to be sure. My question: can this be due to mold exposure? She is a physical therapist at a rehab hospital and she has told me about the constant mold issues there, she was diagnosed in college with lupus like symptoms, although tested 3 times over the last 10 years and received 3 different diagnoses, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and sjogrens (sp) syndrome. She has been taking generic plaquenil for years for her auto immune condition.
Hi, I did review your concern. the lymphnode enlargement in this case can be largely due to the lupus like autoimmunity she is having. However the best idea is suggested by your doctor of taking a biopsy and ruling out a distant chance of malignancy. It will also help in determining if there is any infective cause and also which agent in case its infection. mould generally causes respiratory infection in immunocompromised people and that can cause such lymphnode enlargement but it is highly unlikely. i hope this helps. do let me know results of biopsy report in case you guys go ahead with it which i strongly recommend. wish you all the best..
