Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Just returned from taking my husband to the oncologist for a checkup. He had a CTScan Tuesday In preparation. He is a lung cancer patient who did chemo and 33 radiation treatments for the lung last year. Last month, he had brain surgery to remove a tumor and Radiation to the brain Monday. CT scan showed very little activity in the damaged lung, just dark space. The oncologist suspects blebs and Is sending him to a pulmonologist August 2. How can I be sure the lung is not collapsed and that it is okay to wait that long? He is short winded, taking Prednisone which used to help but isn t much anymore. I am really fond of the oncologist and normally trust him but he s never seen this situation before and I am scared.
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services. I have read your query and here is my advise.
* In case of doubt for lung collapse, rather than being in dilemma, I recommend an ER visit for PET scan and other relevant investigation for lung functioning and decide best possible management ahead.
* There can be possible development of early clot or thrombus which can be defected by diffusion weighted MRI or PET scan efficiently.
Thank you. Take care.
