What Does My CT Scan Report Indicate?

From a CT scan it shows that at L4/5 there is a moderate sized broadbased disc protrusion which extends to both exit foramina causing severe foraminal narrowing on the left and moderate foraminal narrowing on the right. There is severe narrowing of the left lateral recess with likely compression of the left L5 nerve in the lateral recess. There is mild effacement of the right lateral recess for the L5 nerve. There is mild spinal canal stenosis. Can you please explain what this means?

Hello
Thanks for writing to us

According to report, you have degenerative disc disease of lumbar spine.
Degenerative changes occurs in spine due to aging and development of weakness in annulus fibrosis.

1.At L4-5 level, there is moderate size broad base disc herniation which is extending to both lateral neural foramen and it is causing severe foramen narrowing on the left and moderate foramen narrowing on the right side.

Majority of the cases of degenerative spine disease are benefited by physiotherapy,so physiotherapy should be tried first.
Surgery should be the last option.
There are also medicines like capsule pregabalin available for pain relief.

Treatment can be planned after consultation with neurosurgeon.

Get well soon.
Take Care
