Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I Recently had an MRI following a laminectomy procedure from L-3 thru S-1. I developed an infection & had a 2nd surgery. The most recent MRI shows extensive hyperintensity from L-3 to the mid sacrum. Also shows extensive hypo intensity with mixed corresponding STIR hyperintensity and hypo intensity & relatively solid, avid corresponding enhancement is seen within the laminectomy bed. STIR hyperintensity with corresponding enhancement is seen in the subcutaneous fat near the midline overlying the limbo sacral spine. Can you explain what this means so I can understand it? Thanks so much.
I have gone through your MRI report and I will try my best to explain it to you. All the changes mentioned in your MRI report appear to be result of recent surgery. The contrast enhanced areas as well as all the other findings are expected after surgery because of the granulation tissue and localized edema of that region. There is no mention of collection in the report so I would assume there is no abscess formation at present. It is recommended that follow up MRI should be performed and then compared to this present MRI to get a clear picture of the recovery post surgery.
I hope this answers our question. Please feel free to contact HCM again if you have any concerns. Wishing you good luck.
