What Does My MRI Scan Post Embolization Of Cranial DAVF Indicate?

Hello Dr. Tagal - is it you? Thank you, I just have a quick question. I am a patient if Dr. Yang, neuroradiologist in San Diego, ca. He performed surgery to embolize my cranial (dural) fistula (AVF). He is an out of area doctor, for my HMO.....and I have been having some difficulty getting back to him. My primary care doc ordered another post surgery MRI done. Until Dr. Yang, or other qualified MD can review the MRI (on CD)....I am trying to understand if I m better, worse, or about the same. The surgery was about 1.5 yrs ago. The radiologist that reviewed the CD, wrote in his report: 1. Flair images....the hypoT2 signal has decreased measuring 5 mm compared to 9 mm on previous scan. 2. Diffuse volume loss, more than expected for patients age without change. (I m almost 60 yrs). Can you explain please? (Thank you).

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

An MRI scan following the embolization of a cranial dural arteriovenous fistula (DAVF) would be used to assess the procedure's outcome. The radiologist will look to see if the blood flow through the fistula has been successfully blocked and if there are any complications, such as bleeding or infection.

They may also look for any changes in the surrounding brain tissue. It's important to note that I am a language model AI and cannot access any specific patient's medical record or interpret images. It would be best to talk to your radiologist or physician for more information about your particular MRI scan results.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
