What Does My MRI Scan Test Report Indicate?

According to my MRI, i have a small annula tear and central protrusion L4-5. I saw MRI L4-5 disc colored gray compared to other discs. And Neuro surgeon says if pain doensn t go way by PT in 3 months, I need spinal lumbar fusion. Why is it not discectomy?

Hello,

Spinal lumbar fusion implies removal of damaged inter-vertebral disc and fusion of the two vertebrae. I suggest you to discuss the surgery with your neurosurgeon.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
