General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

This shows a compressed intervertebral disc at levels D12 which cause pressure on the nerves arising from the spinal cord and thereby causing pain and radiculopathy.

She should take bed rest, use a hard bed, avoid bending, use an abdominal belt, continue physiotherapy, do hot fomentation and use painkiller anti-inflammatory agents like Advil.

I prescribe Gabapentine and antidepressants like Duloxetine to such patients of mine.
Don't worry, with physical therapy and lifestyle changes, she will improve.
Surgery for it is the last option when all conservative measures fail to give relief to the patient.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
