Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
L4-L5 and L5-S1 discs are desicated. Rest of IV disc spaces show normal height and signal pattern. The facet joints appear norrmal. L4-L5 disc shows diffuse bulge with inferiorly migrated extrusion causing indentation on thecal sac and bilateral traversing nerve roots
Hello and welcome to HCM, The inter-vertebral discs between L4-L5 and L5-S1 vertebrae have lost the hydration and its true morphology. The function of inter-vertebral disc is to act as shock absorber and to provide lubrication while the spine flexes and extends. In addition, the discs at level L4-L5 and L5-S1 are bulging and causing indentation over the nerve roots. Compression of the nerve roots can lead to pain in the area of distribution of the nerves. Thus, the bulging part of the disc needs to be replaced to its original position so that the pressure over the nerve roots is decreased. I suggest you to consult your orthopedician for clinical assessment and further management.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
