What Does My Blood Test Report Indicate?

I just received the results of my blood work and everything was within the normal range except the AST and ALT. AST was 63 Alt was 41. I do regularly take pain medication (Vicodin, Fiorinal, imitrex/maxalt - I rotate those two) for chronic migraines. I ve been on this pain management schedule this for about 5 years without ever having abnormal test results. I may be relying on the Advil a little more lately as a kicker to whatever it is I m taking for my pain at that time (except when it s Fiorinal, I know they can t mix). Of course I m freaking out that all this crap has finally caught up to my liver. I read somewhere that viruses could affect the results of these tests. I had come down with a stomach bug the day before my testing and spent the entire night getting sick and then went and had my blood drawn a couple hours later. So my question is is that true, could my levels be so high because of the virus I had?

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, it can be due to fatty infiltration of the liver which can be diagnosed at the liver ultrasound, and viral serologies, may be needed.

These are markedly high to cause significant morbidity but it is one of the causes of chronic liver disease so should be treated after cause work up.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
