Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 42 years old, recently I have test blood for the liver function; I rarely drink beer. Reports are following: ALT = 195 IU/L, AST = 111 IU/L, AST:ALT= 0.57, TBA = 3.70umol/L, CHO = 6.03umol/L, TG= 2.25umol/L; HDL = 0.98umol/L; LDL = 3.48umol/L; apoA = 1.08g/L, apoB = 1.45g/L, HCY = 13umol/L, I am worried do I have liver problem?
First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the reports you have shared, your liver function tests are deranged mainly ALT and your lipid profile is also on the upper limit.
There are multiple causes of deranged liver function tests like alcohol, infections like hepatitis and gall bladder infections and some drugs like cholesterol-lowering drugs.
However simple obesity is also the cause of deranged LFTs as it can cause fatty liver. I would recommend you to get an Ultrasound abdomen done to looke for liver status.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
