What Does My Blood Test Report Indicate?

Hi, I am a 37 year old female and I had blood drawn a couple of days ago and my RBC was 5.40 M/uL, my hemoglobin was 15.4 g/dL and my hematocrit was 48.1%. I also had a blood smear done and and the results stated, normal white count with rare reactive type lymphocytes. I went to my pcp because of severe exhaustion, consistent fevers and achiness. Do my blood results mean anything?! I did some research and it appeared that they tend to indicate a virus, but my pcp said that my blood work was perfect ; I am looking for a 2nd opinion, as I do not agree with her because of the way I feel! Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The blood picture that you have shared is normal and the values are pretty good compared to most females. Usually, women tend to have Hemoglobin nearer to 10 and Hematocrit nearer to 40.

The rare reactive lymphocyte is a confusing term and it is not clear what the lymphocyte is reactive to.

However, based on the symptoms you have mentioned a few possibilities are -
Thyroid related disease
Other endocrinological diseases.

Many women start developing risk or develop thyroid disease in their 30s and getting a Thyroid level test would be a good way to determine this. Some neck swelling may also be seen in some types of thyroid disease.

In case these tests are also normal, getting a full physical exam and a full body checkup would help.

A few tests the doctor may suggest include -
ECG
Blood test
Liver function
Kidney function
Treadmill test
Ultrasound
Glucose test

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
