Welcome to health care magic.

1.There is a disc between the vertebral bodies helps as a shock absorber effect, the disc contains maximum percentage of water, due to degenerative changes when the water content / hydration is lost the disc slips / bulges.
2.In your case there is a pressure effect on the nerve passing through at the level of L5-S1.
3.And peripheral area of the disc bulge at the level of L4-5 causing pressure effect on the spinal chord and nerve root.
4.Due to the pressure effect on the nerve the muscle gets stiff due to nerve ending irritation.
5.In this case back exercise will be helpful followed by physiotherapy.

Good luck.
