What Does My Hip Xray Mean?

I have bilateral AVN and had my left THA on March 6, 2014. My right hip has been hurting and I have been in to see my ortho dr who took xrays on July 2, 2014 with these results: Satisfactory alignment of the right hip. Subtle increased density in the central portion of right femoral head is stable. No evidence of collapse or flattening of the superior femoral head. My question is why do I have constant, aching pain still in my hip that doesn t allow me to sleep or work without taking medication?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

As you are aware of AVN in both hips, the right hip joint is showing changes expected in AVN. Increased sclerosis in the central portion of right femoral heal indicates decreased blood supply leading to calcium mineral deposition seen as a whitish area and termed sclerosis. There is no further architectural damage to the hip joint or collapse of head of femur. Your pain might be arising from advancing AVN on the right side.
