What Does My Lab Test Report Indicate?

Can someone explain the first finding/result? Thanks. I am really worried: PROCEDURE: Utilizing a GE 1.5T high-resolution imaging system, T1 sagittal, t2 axial, FALIR axial, echo-planar diffusion axial, and T1 postgadolinium axial images were obtained of the brain before and following the administration of 11cc intravenous gadolinium-DTPA Additional high-resolution T1 and t2-weighted images were obtained through the skull base and internal auditory canals FINDINGS: A solitary punctate focus of nonspecific abnormal FLAIR and T2 signal intensity is noted in the loft frontal deep white matter. No other foci of abnormal signal intensity are identified. The ventricles are of normal size and configuration. Diffusion and susceptibility-weighted images are unremarkable. The gray-while differentiation is within normal limits. The brainstem and posterior fossa structure are unremarkable. There is no evidence for tonsillar ectopia. The visualized cranial nerves are unremarkable. High resolution images through the skull base and internal auditory canals demonstrate normal brain stem and cranial nerves. Seventh and eight nerve bundles are well visualized and normal appearing. Mastoid air cells are clear. Third through fifth cranial nerve roots are well visualized as are roots of ninth through twelf cranial nerves. Basilar cisterns are clear. There are no vascular loops. The pituitary glands, sella and cavemous sinuses are unremarkable. Near complete opacification is noted of the right maxillary sinus. Two 1cm retention cysts are noted in the alveolar recess of the left maxillary sinus. Mild mucosal thickening is noted of the ethmoid air cells. The frontal sinus are clear. Sphenoid sinuses are clear. Moderate hypertrophy is noted of the middle and inferior turbines. The nasopharynx, inferotemporal fossa and parapharyngeal spaces are clear. Conclusion: 1.     Nonspecific focus of abnormal t2 signal intensity left formal deep while matter 2.     Near complete opacification of the right maxillary sinus 3.     Two 1cm retention cysts left maxillary sinus and mild mucosal thickening of the ethmoid air cells 4.     Moderate hypertrophy of the middle and inferior tubbines, bilaterally

Hi,

Based on the information provided, the lab test report is describing the findings of an imaging study of the brain and sinuses. The report notes a solitary punctate focus of nonspecific abnormal FLAIR and T2 signal intensity in the left frontal deep white matter, which could indicate a small area of abnormality in that region. However, the report also notes that no other areas of abnormal signal intensity were identified, and the brainstem and posterior fossa structures were unremarkable.

In addition to the brain findings, the report notes that there is near complete opacification of the right maxillary sinus, as well as two 1cm retention cysts in the alveolar recess of the left maxillary sinus and mild mucosal thickening of the ethmoid air cells. These findings suggest some abnormalities in the sinuses, which may or may not be related to any symptoms the individual is experiencing.

Finally, the report also notes moderate hypertrophy of the middle and inferior turbinates, which are structures in the nasal cavity. This may contribute to symptoms such as nasal congestion or difficulty breathing through the nose.

It is important to discuss these findings with a healthcare provider who can provide further interpretation and guidance on any necessary follow-up or treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
