What Does My Spine MRI Scan Indicate?

I had an MRI. Results show L3-4 Broad-based disc bulge lateralizing to left neural foramina w/mild left foraminal narrowing. Canal narrowing is mild on right neural foramina widely patent. Facet disease:mild. L4-5 Moderate facet hypertrophy/mild broad-based disc bulge. Canal lateral recesses remain patent. Foramina min narrowed. L5-S1 high-grade facet arthopathy on left>right. Annular tear/disc protrusion seen centrally and lateralizing slightly to right. Mild posterior displacement of right S1 nerve root. Central canal stenosis is mild. Foraminal narrowing severe on left related to disc bulge and facet disease. Right neural foraminal narrowing is moderate.

Injury related to car accident 8 wks ago. Have received conservative treatment 3/wk since accident ie, chiropractic adjustments, moist heat, My Act (type of deep myofacial release tech).

Question: Is is better to follow up with a Neurologist or an Orthopedic spine Dr? Based on info from MRI does is sound likely to require surgery?

Welcome to health care magic.

1.The report suggest there are disc bulges at different mentioned levels which are seen causing the pressure effect on the foramen and exiting nerve roots.
2.Facet joint seen inflammatory changes with loos of hydration or fat stranding features.
3.All the above findings seems to be as degenerative changes - Nothing much of features seen typically post trauma.
4.In this case i would recommend to see orthopaedic specialist in first place - who may indicate some exercises which help to relieve symptoms.
5.If further persists physiotherapy or intervention / operative treatment is final investigation of choice.

Good luck.
Hope i have answered your query,
any thing to ask ? do not hesitate to ask.
