What Does My Thyroid Test Result Indicate?

I went to my primary care physician today because I have symptoms that seem similar to those with hypothyroidism (e.g., fatigue, cold sensitivity, difficulty with memory, dry skin, and constipation) . My dad was diagnosed and treated for hypothyroidism during his 20s. My TSH level is 2.10 ulU/mL and Free T4 is at 1.03 ng/dL. Are these numbers within normal range or should I seek consult from an endocrinologist? Thanks so much!

HELLO and WELCOME TO HCM.
i have read your question and i can understand your concerns.

the reference range for thyroid stimulating hormone is
0.5micro mol unit per milliliters to 4.70 micromol unit per milliliters.
value under 0.1 is considered overt hypothyroidism and value between 0.1 to 0.5 is considered subclinical hypothyroidism.levels between 0.5 to 2 can be associated with thyroid dysfunction.

the reference range for thyroxine(t4) is
4.4microgram per deciliters to 12.5 micrograms per deciliter.it is for total t4.free t4 has other reference range.

from the clinical scenerio you presented and the lab test values it is possible that you may have hypothyroidism.
if i were your treating physician i would have examined you to look for eye signs, myxedema etc.then i would have prescribed tablet thyroxine 75microgram for 4 weeks and then add 15 to 25microgram every week till 100mg dose per day.i would also regularly check you thyroid hormones.thyroxine effects heart also and patients with arrythmias should take it cautiously.i would also examine your thyroid gland for any swelling.i would also do tests for thyroid peroxidase antibodies which can damage thyroid gland.
in hypothyroidism seum thyroid stimulating hormone levels are typically increased.this TSH is secreted by pituitary gland in response to low levels of thyroxine.in hypothyroidism thyroxine is levels are typically low.

thanks.hope the answer is helpful.
feel free to ask any further query.
regards
