What Does My Ultrasound Report Indicate?

My thyroid ultrasound report said .. in the isthmus on the right side there is a 3.3x3.4x1cm predominantly solid mass. This has some calcification. In the left lobe there is a complex 1.8 cm nodule mid portion. In the upper pole of the right lobe there is a 1.5cm complex cyst. The remainder of the left and right lobe are inhomogeneous.
Could you please explain what the report said.
Thanks.
Kathy

Hello and welcome to HCM,
The ultrasound report shows presence of cystic lesions in both lobes of thyroid and a solid nodule in the isthmus which connects the lobes.
The nature and cause of these cystic and solid lesions needs to be known.
These lesions can be benign or malignant.
You need to further get aspiration cytology of these lesions.
In aspiration cytology, cells are aspirated with a fine needle, spread on a slide and stained with appropriate stain.
The cells are then studied under microscope to ascertain and nature of the lesions in the thyroid gland.
Further management can be planned on the basis of diagnosis made.

Thanks and take care
