What Does My Ultrasound Scan Report Indicate?

I m 43. I had a scan at 7 weeks + I was told that there was a sac measuring 16mm but not foetal pole. The sac had measured 6mm 10 days earlier + they could clearly see a yolk sac on that occasion but on the 7 weeks scan they said they could see echoes of something? but they couldn t see the yolk sac clearly as with the previous scan. I was told that it is highly likely to be a blighted ovum+ to come back in a week for a follow-up scan when they will be in a position to draw a line under it + I can the choose how I want to manage the miscarriage. Is there no hope.

Hello,

Unfortunately, this is a miscarriage abortion. You can also do a BHCG blood test to see what is its value. It's your obstetrician decision how this abortion should be treated further.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Jolanda Nikolla, Pulmonologist
