What Does My Ultrasound Scan Report Indicate?

Hallo! I m 59, had 3 children and 2 miscarriages in my 20s/30s, since when very heavy, regular periods. At some stage a scan revealed fibroids. Last period (after 2-3 at 6 month gaps) was Feb 2016 - until 2 weeks ago, when I had the usual PM symptoms followed by light period. GP sent me for ultrasound today, showing that I still have approx. 5 fibroids, and referring me for hysteroscopy (7 Aug). I have two worries: one about the procedure itself, the other about the outcome. I understand it is done in outpatients with no anaesthetic. I have heard a campaign in the House of Commons to get this procedure routinely done with GA as it s so painful. Can I negotiate the procedure to be done under GA? Secondly, the outcome: are fibroids dangerous? I ve lived with them for many years without a problem - don t cause me pain. Is it possible the light bleeding is as a result of re-starting hormonal activity? I don t relish either fibroidectomy or hysterectomy if they aren t necessary. Are there other treatments available - I understood fibroids shrink after the menopause? Thank you for taking time to answer me. Yvonne

lets see all aspects ...first thing is that you can request your doctor for GA but GA has own risks ...usually risk factors are poor cardiac or pulmonary disease or liver or kidney diseases...but according to me GA should be avoided as far as possible even if there is no risk factor ...your doctor will tell you pros and cons of GA v/s LA ...now second thing ...fibroids may be asymptomatic in some and painful or bleeding in others ...there is some low risk of malignancy also ..if you donot want to surgery then you have periodically keep track of fibroids ..and treatment depends upon type or location of fibroids and symptoms ..
