What Does My Ultrasound Scan Test Result Indicate?

I am 34 pregnant and been recently developed beta haemolytic streptococcus group B urine infection. I have been advised to take tab amoxicillin 500 mg tds. I started the same. I did my fetal well being scan last week and it shows baby growth is not good. They said it is 16th percentile. What does it mean and what should I do?

Hi,

Do you have any other issues during pregnancy like hypertension, recurrent UTI or infection?

What about your previous scan reports?

Is this the first child?

These are the important question which should I know to rule out the cause of IUGR. For monitoring of IUGR baby, your obstetrician may ask to do Doppler to rule out fetoplacental insufficiency. They will monitor the baby growth with Doppler scanning twice weekly or weekly. If the scan will suggest, the doctor may terminate the pregnancy at this gestational age.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Rajshree Agrawal, General & Family Physician
