What Does Nausea Along With Dry Heaves Indicate?

My son has experienced sudden onset nausea and dry heaves with muscle cramps, no vomiting. It began last night about an hour and half after dinner. He said he was hungry, ate an apple, then started having aggressive nausea, abdominal cramps, dry heaves, but no vomiting. He woke this morning without symptoms, and then just before dinner tonight, the symptoms reappeared, seemingly stronger. He did eat dinner tonight. The symptoms are currently present. It just seems so odd to have the symptoms reoccur approx. 24 hrs. later. Any thoughts?

Hi

Thanks for using HealthcareMagic.
Viral illnesses can wax and wane, this means that the symptoms can decrease and intensify.
Viral infection is one of the most common causes for nausea and abdominal pain. It is possible that the vomiting may start at a later point.
He should use mainly dry or plain foods for now and monitor for changes.

I hope this helps.
