What Does Nausea, Diarrhea And Frequent Urination Indicate?

Hi, my body has been acting oddly for 5 or 6 weeks now. I was getting nausea every day, with occasional diarrhea and feeling of needing to vomit but only ever getting a very little vomit in my mouth. This combined with frequent urination and being tired all the time led me to take a pregnancy test despite being on Nexplanon for two and a bit years now (never had side effects before). Test was negative. Symptoms never went away so went to see the nose practitioner, she repeated the urine test - negative - and checked for a uti - negative - so said it was gastritis. Have been on medication for that for about 10 days. By about day 3 nausea had gone, but came back with a vengeance day 8 and has been intermittent since. Eating more often as never feel full, and still tired and peeing a lot. Lower abdomen feels firm and slightly protruding, breasts seem to be a bit bigger although my partner is not so sure - makes me wonder if I m seeing something that s not there. Exercise not impacting the tiredness, which is normally does (active lifestyle, running and cycling). I just don t really know what is going on but my body just doesn t feel normal . It is making me a bit tetchy and my otherwise supportive partner doesn t really know what to do/say, once pregnancy was ruled out he just kind of lost interest. Any ideas?

Hi,

There are several possible causes for the symptoms you are experiencing. Nausea, diarrhea, and frequent urination can be caused by several gastrointestinal issues, such as gastritis, gastroenteritis, or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). However, given that you have been treated for gastritis and the symptoms persist, other possible causes should also be considered.

One possibility is a hormonal imbalance. This could be related to the Nexplanon implant, which is a form of birth control that releases the hormone progestin. Progestin can cause side effects such as nausea, breast tenderness, and changes in appetite. It is also possible that the implant has become less effective over time and you could be experiencing symptoms of pregnancy. However, given that you have had a negative pregnancy test and have been using the implant for over two years, this is less likely.

Another possibility is a urinary tract infection (UTI) that has not been detected by the urine test. UTIs can cause frequent urination and lower abdominal discomfort. It is important to note that some UTIs can be difficult to diagnose, especially if there are no visible signs of infection.

Additionally, the weight gain, tiredness, and breast enlargement could potentially be related to an endocrine disorder such as hypothyroidism or a pituitary tumor. However, it is important to note that these conditions are rare and typically require more testing to diagnose.

It is recommended that you follow up with your healthcare provider to discuss these symptoms and explore further testing or treatment options. In the meantime, keeping a symptom diary and noting any patterns or triggers could also help identify potential causes.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
