What Does No P Waves Mean ? ECG Results Help Please
I recently had an ECG and my heart rate is 39 and I had no p waves, but what does no p waves mean ? I have also been getting shortness of breath, I have told my Doctor but info is bery slow, I am only 29 and very worried now. I m just relaying what the cardiologist said in her reoprt and my heart rate is regularly at 39-41bpm this is a fact. I am indeed in the UK, and the only medication I am on is Lanzoprozole, I have had deficulties breathing almost as though I have a small child sat on my chest, and I have for a few years now been almost constantly tired and I would fall asleep driving on the bus and even walking at one point.
No P waves indicates sinoartrial block. It's likely because your heart rate is so low. Bradycardia is defined when heart rate drops below 50, which usually causes patients to be symptomatic with fainting, fatigue, breathlessness and dizziness, etc.
A very low pulse rate can be tolerated as long as the amount of blood pumped out of the left side of the heart per minute is adequate to oxygenate the brain and the other parts of the body. Once the heart is unable to fulfil this requirement you will become symptomatic. The level this is tolerated at varies from person to person. Below 40 is usually always a problem and is absolute bradycardia. .
If you are having sinus pauses (no P waves) and you are symptomatic then it may mean you need to have a pacemaker fitted if there is no identifiable cause. Are you taking any medication such as beta-blockers at present or drugs like Digoxin?
