Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my stepdad had his left lung removed 12 days ago. He is finally home after having complications with his heart going into afib. He was standing at the sink shaving when his leg went completely numb and he was not able to walk on it for a short period of time. Feeling returned over a 10 minute interval from trunk to ankle after having him seated and raising legs. Should we be concerned or is this common after such a surgery?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
What is the cause of lung removal?
Usually nerve compression at the lumbar region or at knee or torsal bone may lead to numbness. Also, if he is having lung malignancy radiation or chemotherapy then there is a chance of numbness, etcetera.
Until examination is done, it is difficult to say what it is. B12 deficincy or neuropathy also cause symptoms like this.
Please consult your neurophysician who will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
