What Does Osseous Degenerative Changes Of Lumbar Spine Mean?

I went to the ER 2 weeks ago after experiencing sudden severe back pain. Doctor sent me home with muscle relaxer, ibuprofen and pain killer. Follow up with my regular doctor had me continue with these medications and exercise. I was just reading my Radiology report online and it says the impression is that I have Osseous degenerative changes of the lumbar spine . What does this mean excactly? Is it something I need to have checked out further through an MRI?

Welcome to health care magic.

1.The osseous process in the lumbar spine are called osteophytes.
2.Osteophytes are seen as a age related changes and excessive hard working nature.
3.The treatment in back pain is back exercises - that will help in most of the cases.
4.If not responding physiotherapy will help - finally if they fail to help further evaluation with MRI will helpful.
5.MRI is always a good modality to assess the spine, chord, nerve, disc of if cost not an issue then please get it done. Which will give additional information.

Good luck.
