What Does Pain Above The Knee Indicate?

I had an X-Ray of my leg done approx 3 yrs ago. It was focused on the femur, just above the knee. It showed what appeared to be tiny spikes(very similar to a wood rasp) just under the muscle and other tissue. Much pain as a result. Can you tel me what they are called?

Hello,

Suggestive of bone spurs.

Based on the history and x-ray findings you seem to be suffering from a Bone spurs.

Bone spurs ( (also called osteophytes) are smooth, hard bumps of extra bone that form on the ends of bones. They often pop up in the joints, the places where two bones meet.

They are caused by the body trying to repair itself by building extra bone in response to stress and pressure that wears down the cartilage and bone in the joint over time.

This wear and tear is a common part of the aging process and the stress placed on our joints over the years, and may also lead to osteoarthritis which is a degenerative type of arthritis affecting the joints. The knee is one of the joints most often affected by osteoarthritis.

In view of the above you are advised to consult an orthopedic surgeon for further evaluation and treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
