What Does Pain And An Indentation On The Lower Back Indicate?

Hey I am 28 years old and have had two kids and have lower back pain on and off but nothing serious but also realized today from my mom that I have a indentation in my lower back the size of a fist and that same place is where I have pain at times which is right where my spine is.. could you please tell me why?
