Hi Dr, I am 25 years old and I have been on the birth control pill since being 14 years old i came off the contraception approx 1 year ago with trying for my first child, I still have had no luck yet. I have been getting very severe pains during my menstrual cycle mainly the first 2 days of my period pain that are unbearable and I carnt move out of bed. The pain is in my back and my hips and my lower abdomen .The week running up to my period bleed light only noticing when I wipe when going to the toilet , my period only last for about 4 days. I am due for my first smear test in a few weeks should I mention this to my GP. Any advice would be much appreciated

Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic for your health concern

The pain you are experiencing during menstruation is called dysmanorrhea. Dysmanorrhea which is mild to moderate is normal. However, since you are describing severe pain and no luck getting pregnant for 1 year, organic causes for dysmanorrhea like endometriosis should be ruled out. You should definitely mention your symptoms to GP who can refer you to a gynecologist. Pelvic examination, PAP smear(if due) and pelvic ultrasound are recommended at this point.
