What Does Pain In The Head, Neck And Back Indicate?
My sister is in the hospital right now for severe pain in her head neck and back. She has 5-8 seizures a day lasting 30-35 minutes in which she has extreme rigidity in her limbs and extreme pain in her head over and being the right eye. She has to be held down by family and nurses and doesn t remember the event afterwards. She has had CT scans and an we which appeared normal. She is 33 years old and these symptoms have completely taken over her quality of life. Doctors are stumped and we don t know what to do next or how to help her. She needs a diagnosis! Any thoughts?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.
Your sister will need further tests to have a proper diagnosis. Sometimes an MRI has a better chance of visualizing brain masses or structural problems so i would say she needs a brain MRI (CT scans are better for detecting hemorrage and bone problems).
She will also need EEG to evaluate brain electrical waves and sometimes the doctors might also perform lumbar punctures to evaluate the CSF and rule out meningitis and other conditions that may cause similar symptoms.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
