What Does Pain In The Lower Abdomen On The Left Side Indicate?

My eight year old daughter has pain in her lower left abdomen that just developed about 2 hours ago. It is painful to the touch, but she has no fever. She is a very active child but has spent the afternoon the couch. Can you give me some idea of what it may be, or if I should be worried? I know this isn t much information, but it s what I have. Thank you for any information.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Left lower abdominal pain in children is commonly seen with intestinal infection and renal stone. So in my opinion, you should definitely take her to emergency room and get done clinical examination and ultrasound examination of abdomen. She may need antibiotics, painkiller, Intravenous fluid etc. Don't worry, she will be alright.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
