What Does Pain In The Lower Abdomen On The Left Side Indicate?

Had abdominal hernia surgery 3 weeks ago, only took Acetaminophen 500 mg after and no muscle relaxers. Still get sharp pain at times in lower left region of my abdomen when I cough, twist, sneeze or bend just right. Pain only last a couple minutes otherwise no other issues. Do muscle relaxers aid in the recovery time or just help to mitigate pain?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The pain you are experiencing is common after surgery and will eventually subside. Since the pain is intermittent and it is been almost 3 weeks post surgery, there is no need for muscle relaxants. You can try using supportive belts to help with the pain. Also, continue Acetaminophen.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
