What Does Pain In The Sternum Indicate?

Son is having pain in sternum for about a week or so. It feels like it needs to pop in the morning, like a sharp pain and then he stretches leans forward or lays on stomach and lifts head up it will pop and then it usually quits hurting. Now it is hurting and won t pop and can t get rid of the pain. It hurts to push on dead center of his sternum. It hurts to take a deep breath and normal breathing. What is this and what should I do? He is 21 years old.

hi mam/sir,many young men come to my clinic with more or less similar symptoms of pain in the chest area.most of them end up with muscular causes.but before we come to a conclusion, please rule out any lung, rib cage, sternum(any masses, bone /cartilage fractures, lymph node enlargement),cardiac causes.let him undergo some investigations as follows:
1)chest xray PA and AP views.
2)ECG.
for pain,i can suggest you a temporary relief medication, tab.aceclofenac with chlorzoxazone after food twice daily.
caution:it may cause gastric irritation.so tab.pantoprazole once daily before food is recommended.please upload the results after investigations are done.
just relax everything will be ok.let him go for those investigations as early
as possible.hope my clarification allays your anxiety.any further doubts,please write to us.i wish him a speedy recovery.thank you.take care.bye.
