What Does Pain In The Throat And Cheeks Of A Child Indicate?

My 4 year old son was crying because his cheeks hurt and his throat hurt. It was a sudden onset and then after about 2 hours of painfully crying and screaming, he was instantly fine. He had fevers about a week ago of 101-101.9 controllable with medicine, runny nose, cough, no appetite. He again today had no appetite, diarrhea, and then this random situation. My husband and I have no clue what to make of this????
