What Does Pain In The Upper Arm And Shoulders Indicate?

I have occasional sharp pain in the upper arm/Shoulder. I can t say for sure what triggers it but when it happens, it brings me to my knees in pain for about 20 seconds. The other day, I caught a thrown football and it triggered it. I have restricted range of motion. I cannot raise my hands all the way over my head. A month ago, I had an XRY and MRI done and it came back inconclusive. What can this possibly be?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms can be related to tendinitis which is an inflammation of the tendines.
Some suggestions about the treatment are :
-use painkillers like ibuprofen 400 mg three times a day
-use anti inflammatory creams for local relief
-use cold compresses
-avoid other injuries on the area

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
