What Does Pain On The Left Side Of The Abdomen Indicate?

I was treated for diverticulitis at Kaiser Hospital walk in clinic about 10 days ago and given a prescription of 500mg ciprofloxacin to take two tablets each day for 10 days. I am still getting pain on my left side. I also was told to add more fiber to my diet and was also taking two 5 grams of metamucel (sp) wafers each morning during this time. However, the pain in the left side still comes most of the day. Is there anything else I can do to relieve this daily pain besides going back to the doctor? I am 76 female and may soon be have a knee replacement surgery and want to get this cleared up before then. This is the first time I have had this problem and I was doing treadmill 3x per week for half hour before the knee began to hurt. Any help or suggestion you can give me would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In my opinion, you should definitely take anti spasmodic drug like Dicyclomin.
Actually diverticulitis causes spasm of intestines.
This causes periodic sudden onset pain.
So to relieve this, anti spasmodic drugs are used.
If spasms (pains) are more frequent and more severe then CT scan of abdomen is needed.
So in my opinion, at present you should take anti spasmodic drug.
