What Does Pain On The Right Side Of The Ribcage Indicate?

My 10 year old daughter I complaint of pain on her right side. She is complaining that her rib hurts. She has no fever, nausea, or loss of appetite so I don t believe it s appendicitis. We did go for a horseback riding lesson yesterday however the pain didn t start until late this morning. What could it be?

Hello,

Pain in the right rib cage can be caused by different causes from simple muscular pain to other more important conditions of the organs in the area like liver, bowel, lungs, etc.

If the child is having only pain and the pain is worse on movement or touch and breathing very likely it is muscular pain and taking some ibuprofen and paracetamol every 6-8 hours might bring relief. She needs to rest a little as well.

If she is not improving or is getting any worse she needs to see a doctor especially if she gets short of breath or any other complaint she may develop.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
