What Does Pain Under The Jaw On The Left Side Indicate?

Have pain on left side of neck just below the jaw bone. It appeared a couple of days ago and is continuing to get worse. Don t seem to have ear ache or sore throat. Some small difficulty swallowing. Cannot see anything looking in my throat. What might these symptoms suggest. Should I seek medical help?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per the symptoms, pain under the jaw can be due to causes like infection in sub-mandibular salivary gland or infection in lymph nodes. It can also be a muscle pull.

So my suggestion is to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a clinical examination and also an x-ray can be done.

If there is infection then antibiotics like Cephalexin and anti-inflammatory painkillers like Advil can be advised.

If there is muscle pull then muscle relaxant like Chlorzoxasone can help in relieving pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora
