Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Pain underneath left pinkie toe; able to flex toe up and down, but when pressure is put on left interior side of that area, pain is unbelievable. Cannot wear a shoe, sandal is what I am using now, but any pressure to that area pushing it inwards towards my other toes, causes extreme unbearable pain. Did not fall, stumble, stub it, nothing; had walked my usual 2 mile walk with my winter walking boots on for two days prior. No visible sign of any injury; not a corn or a bunion; no redness.
Since, you have no history of injury in the affected area it seems the pain you are experiencing is because of overuse. I would advise you to avoid using your boots for a few days as it will cause more pressure on the toe. Wear a sandal with open toes.
It is advisable to get an x-ray of the left foot to rule out stress fracture which can happen even without any injury. Apply ice pack to the area to relieve pain and inflammation. You can take an over the counter painkiller like Advil to relieve the pain.
If the pain is not relieved in one or two days, get yourself checked by an orthopaedician.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma Amman
