What Does Persistent Pain In Left Side Of Waist Suggest?

I have a pain on my left side at the waist but more towards my back not side or front. It s a constant pain but gets worse when I sit or lie down in one position for more than 10 minutes or so. Heat helps some but nothing takes the pain away. I was thinking kidney but I m not urinating any more than I usually do, it isn t any different in color & I don t have any pain when urinating. What else can it be?? I m 57 years old & active but could lose 20 #.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms can be related to diverticulitis which cause pain on their left side. Gas or digestive problems can cause this and probably several other things as well. Any time you experience sudden onset pain like this, it's good to see your GP right away and do an abdominal ultrasound for further evaluation.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
