What Does Pink, Brown Clots And Stringy Bleeding Between Periods Mean?

Hello, my name is Christina. I come to you for help because I am quite worried, you see, on August first I had sex with my boyfriend, at first we used a condom, but we both found that we got absolutely no pleasure with it, so we decided to take off the condom, well, what a world of difference it makes with and without a condom, well before my boyfriend finished he pulled out, in fact, he pulled out so soon that he didn t even get to finish, but for safety precautions we decided to buy the plan b pill, even though he never finished inside me. Well, on August 7th I had my period, at first it was extremely light, but by the third day it was extremely extremely heavy, I tend to have heavier periods but this period was quite rough, the cramps were nearly unbearable, I ve never experienced a period like this before, well my period lasted for seven days, it ended the 13th, I have a period tracker. Anyways, I was glad when it finally ended but within a few weeks I began having abdominal cramps again, I thought maybe I was starting my period again because my periods are quite irregular. Well, one day while using the restroom I went to wipe, and when I did I noticed something on the toilet paper, it looked like a gel blob, with something black in the center of it, the blob itself looked pinkish, never have I experienced this before, I ve experienced a clear gel like substance but never this, so right then I was frightened my first thought was I was pregnant, and had a miscarriage. After this happens I decided to do some research, to find out symptoms of a miscarriage, and it all seemed to add up, the cramping the nausea and some other things, well, the following day when I used the restroom, I wiped but this time I became a little more frightened, because this time it wasn t fleshy tan pink color, it was a brown color, and had gel stringy like substance along with it. When I looked into the toilet, my urine was the normal bright yellow? I was confused and scared at the same time, there wasn t enough of this substance to be a period, I noticed that throughout the day, it would be there when I wiped, but my urine was still the same, well today I noticed what appeared to be a blood clot, but it wasn t red, it was brown..I m quite worried as to what s happening, and I am currently unable to visit a doctor. Please, help me. I m very worried. Thank you very much, Christina.

Hi,

Chances of getting pregnant is always there with unprotected sex around the period of ovulation which occurs 14 days prior to next expected period. I would advise you for a battery of investigation like CBC, ESR, urine pregnancy card test, urine culture and an ultrasound to rule out possibility of miscarriage or urine infection.

In my opinion you may require a course of antibiotics under medical supervision if urine pregnancy card and an ultrasound doesn't show the signs or miscarriage. Meanwhile maintain good hygiene, have lots of fluids orally to maintain good hydration.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to ask for follow up question and I will gladly answer you.

Best wishes,
Dr. B R Hudda
