What Does Placenta Posterior Mean In A Scan Report?

hi im 39weeks + 3 days and I went to hospital yesterday but got sent home I saw in my notes placenta posterior what does this mean? also was told im only a finger tip dilated and 3/5 engagement does this mean im gonba be over due as im due on thursday

Hi, Placenta can be anterior, posterior or fundal depending upon position of placenta on the wall of uterus. If it is in lower uterine segment it is called placenta previa. It can cause problem depending upon its type. Posterior placenta means placenta is attached to posterior wall of uterus. it will not cause any problem.
Your cervix is only a finger tip dilated. To deliver the baby cervix ( lower part of uterus ) should be 10 cm dilated. So still time is needed.
Engagement of head is measured abdominally by estimating the number of fifths of the head above the pelvic brim. 0/5 means head is completely engaged. Head is 3/5 engaged means still 3 finger breadth head is palpable abdominally. In first pregnancy head is engaged before labour & in multigravida it engages during labour. Means you are still not in labour , but you are not overdue. Pain can start anytime. You are still having 3 days. So dont worry.
