What Does Positive Results For Erythrocytes In Stool Test Indicate?

Hi, i had to have a stool test done, as i was getting darkish blood in my stools, the test came back as positive for erythrocytes. what could this mean? i'm getting other unusual symptoms, such as nausea, fainting and dizziness, pains in the arm legs and lower stomach region, trouble sleeping, but feeling very tired through out the day, not eating, and losing weight. please help!

Hello, Thnx to contact us. If I am your treating doctor I would like to advice you that you have not mentioned about whether along with blood amoeba is present on not. If it is present than you probably infected with the amoeba and treatment include the metronidazole. If it is not present than it is possible the cause may be different. there are various causes of the blood in the stool. It may be ulcer in the intestine, malignancy of the colon, intusuception and many more. it requires your detail history and examination. Also the symptom you have mentioned like nausea, faintin dizziness and others. is because of the loss of blood and consequent anemia because of it. I advice my patients in such cases that they should start with the iron supplement. depending on the level of hemoglobin you should start with iron tablet, injectables or blood transfusion.
