What Does Predominantly Parabasal Cells On Pap Smear Report Indicate?

My paper results came back normal. On the paper though it says Negative for intraepithelual lesion or malignancy. Strophic pattern; predominantly parabasal cells. What does this mean. I m sure if it was something to be concerned about, My doctor would not have written down your Pap smear is reported as normal. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Parabasal cells are found in women in menopause or in those that are using progesterone pills.
So, they are not abnormal cells and they do not indicate any malignancy or anything worrisome in the pap smear.

I hope this answers your query and is helpful to you. Let me know if I may assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
