What Does Prolonged Menstrual Bleeding Indicate?

My period usually is 5 days long, and starts off heavy for the first day or two then will change to regular/light flow for the last days and ends in brown discharge. This month it started a day early and started off brown and extremely light for the first few days and now I m on my 8th day with a regular/light flow and the color is a little lighter but still red. Sorry for the details but what does this mean?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Prolonged mild menstrual bleeding may be due to infection or polyps or dub or fibroids. Until the examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Avoid spicy food and alcohol avoid smoking and caffeine drinks.

Please consult your gynecologist she will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
