What Does Prolonged Vaginal Bleeding Indicate?

Hi I am a 6 year breast cancer survivor. Stage 3 (non- estrogen ) I have not has my period since chemo in 2011. I have started bleeding the last 48 hours with a little cramping. I have had no sexual activity and stopped taking Tamoxifen. How urgent could this be..I know it is the first sign of cancer. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Thanks for your query on HCM

"As"per your clinical history is concerned prolonged vaginal bleeding is not a sign of cancer so please follow like in detail-

1)Do a physical exam[Hysteroscopy] by your treating doctor and do few tests like [CBC, Ultrasound, and Pap test]to know exact pathology.

2)Discuss with your doctor about [iron supplements, Oral progesterone, Tranexamic acid]to stop blood flow as well as loss of blood.

3)Discuss with your treating doctor about [Tamoxifen]if you need that right now or not.

Take few preventives like this -

1)Get plenty of rest. If you become unusually tired, nervous, or constipated, you may be more likely to experience menstrual pain.

2)Try to do exercise regularly such as walking, swimming, or bicycling may improve blood flow and ease menstrual pain.

3)Try to eat a diet rich in whole grains and green leafy vegetables.

4)Try to drink plenty of fluids.

Hope that helps
